A master keyed lock is a lock that can be opened by individual keys, but can also be opened by using a master key.
If you are the original owner of the keys, we can replace them using a specific code. If not, we can fit you a new key on-site. If you suspect your keys were stolen, we will rekey your locks so that the stolen keys will no longer operate them.
A transponder key is embedded under the plastic covering of the key itself, therefore it may be difficult to know if you have one. An easy way is to look for a red light that flashes every 2 seconds or so on your dashboard. This light should go off once you insert a programmed key to the ignition.
Rekeying is the process of adjusting the tumblers of the lock thus only a new key can open it while the old one will not. With Re- keying there is no need to replace the entire lock. Most people choose to re-key their locks when there is a concern that unauthorized people have keys to the lock.
A lot of people will contact us when they find themselves in an emergency situation: locked out of a house or a car and in need a new car key, etc. But the list of services that we provide is much greater than that. We can assist you with rekeying or changing your locks, extracting a (broken) key from a lock, maintenance & repair, install locks & deadbolts, lock picking, key cutting & duplication, we can assist with alarm system installation, security bar panic devices, security advise and we can even crack safes. We are here to help you, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Yes: if you don’t know who else owns a key of your home you are potentially at risk. Think about it, a previous housekeeper, babysitter or a family member of the previous owner may still own a duplicate key to your home. In case you are not 100% sure we advise to either rekey the existing locks, which can be done relatively cheap in most cases, or to completely replace the existing locks. Call us for a free advice on the best scenario for your specific situation.
Mya automotive locksmiths can duplicate 99% of all automotive keys on the market. Dealers will tell their customers this because they want you to go through them. There are some late model automotive keys that we can’t duplicate because the manufacture has not released the key codes to locksmiths. When you call Mya Locksmith, we come to where you are and duplicate your key onsite. You don’t have a towing expense and if you have AAA, you may have benefits that will pay a portion of the cost. Additionally, we provide you with the same warranty as the dealership!
Keys marked "Do Not Duplicate," " Do Not Copy," or "Unlawful to Copy" may be duplicated only if a letter of authorization from the owner or supervisor is presented with the request for duplication. The letter should be on company letterhead and identify the key to be made, the number of keys, the person picking up the keys, and the name and number of the person writing the letter. The person picking up the keys will be required to fill out a "Request for Restricted Keys" form. We reserve the right to refuse to duplicate any key marked "Do Not Duplicate."
Re-keying means adjusting the tumblers in an existing lock so that only new keys can open it. Many people, who continue to use the same key that they received when they bought their home, have no idea of how many people such as tradesmen, neighbors and friend’s etc., who are no longer relevant, have had access to that key. Most technicians can re-key your locks and give you the security of knowing that only you and the people you trust will have access to your domain. Lost your keys? Relax; re-keying will adapt your existing locks to new keys. Mya Locksmith installs, replaces and upgrades lock cylinders, locksets and deadbolt locks.
You should always change your locks when you move into your new home. You have no idea how many sets of keys exist for the old locks or where they currently are. The cost in changing these locks should be minimal but of huge benefit to you and your family. If you move into your new property and are burgled by someone that has a key, your insurance company would not pay out.
We always try to fix and open locks non-destructively as this will keep the costs down. However, on some occasions we will have to break a lock if non-destructive entry isn’t possible. We will always advise of costings before proceeding with any work.
When you insert a key into a lock, and you feel significant resistance when turning, the best thing to do is to stop. Forcing the key could cause damage to the lock, or the key could end up breaking. Rather than make matters worse, contact a professional locksmith to resolve the problem. When you have issues with your lock, it’s best to leave the repairs to the professionals to avoid further problems. Contact Mya locksmith today for all your locksmith needs. We are available 24/7.
